Miss Constance Cane
6th June 2021
Darrell Kingsland:
Hello,
I met Constance several times when I was young. From age 5 up to 12ish. My mum and dad lived next door to her cousin, D.M. Cane. Dorothy. She lived until she was 96. A retired headmistress of de bohun school. I remember missing school one day at arounf age 8. DM Cane was to look after me. Constance was there. She greeted me with, "this is an unexpected pleasure" I stayed the day with them, Lots of tea and cakes. DM Cane used to make our dog milky tea. The dog loved it. Constance served in Malta, I believe as a nurse during the 2nd world war. She was a straight up no nonsense type. Her and her two comrades were, as was DM Cane. We visited Battle around the time. Was there a hotel called the non such? You are correct they did paint, and walk. My mum has a few of her paintings hanging still.
Very well rounded adults of an era now long gone.
